TEHRAN- The Secretary General of the Iran Public Libraries Foundation has written a letter to Vicki McDonald, President of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), expressing deep concerns and condemnation regarding the recent Israeli invasions and the unfolding humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

In his letter, Mehdi Ramezani highlighted the significant loss of life and destruction of cultural institutions in the region, the public relations office of the foundation announced on Friday.

The letter, which noted that over 40,000 people, including women, children, and journalists, have been killed and displaced as a result of the invasions, pointed out the extensive destruction of libraries and archive centers.

The importance of these institutions in preserving knowledge and cultural heritage, as well as their role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, was also emphasized in the correspondence.

The Iran Public Libraries Foundation is calling on IFLA to take a strong stance against these violations, advocate for freedom of information, and protect the rights of all affected individuals.

The foundation is also urging IFLA to engage with the United Nations and support efforts to establish a ceasefire for the benefit of the Palestinian people, underlining the significance of peace, freedom, justice, and human rights during these challenging times.

Ramezani also expressed appreciation for IFLA's attention to this urgent matter and anticipates their response, expecting the organization to demonstrate a steadfast commitment to freedom, justice, and human rights in the face of these atrocities.
